5 Mistakes you pair up your formals in a wrong way

Fashion faux pas? Well, if you were to ask your colleagues, wearing formals regularly is definitely not everyone’s game. We are so wired into working that we or especially men forget to slay their formal attire. We all have been there, and while there is no set of rules or checklist but certainly, a few reminders can help us slay our formal wear. Here’s your go-to checklist
- Colours: Isn’t it true that when we say formals, it’s majorly the shades of blues and greys that flash our mind? We see most of the office goers in the same that we forget to check on other colours. This often happens with men’s styling. However, you should not go flashy in terms of colours, too.
Check your wardrobe and ensure that you don’t bore your looks with just shades of blue or grey. Try to pair up interesting colours like lilac, cyan and shades of teal or brown. These colours look sober and professional.
- The fit: With machines trying to produce shirts, trousers and skirts on a mass scale, getting the perfect fit could be a challenge. Firstly, understand the different kinds of fit that are available and choose the one that suits not just your personality but your field of work. Imagine you are comfortable in a tapered fit but have to switch between sitting in an Indian style and walking frequently. Wouldnt that hamper your crisply ironed trousers? So it is crucial to understand and wear perfectly fitting trousers, blazers, shirts or skirts.
- Hair and makeup: Hair and makeup is a common misconception limited to women and their styling. However, well-groomed men steal the show and crack that challenging deal with their neat looks. Short and well-combed hair suit men, while minimal makeup to highlight just the right features of the face suit women. Even a slight overdoing of the makeup can ruin the look. In the corporate world, streaks of tacky hair colours are not preferred. Overall, your hair and makeup should simply accentuate your look than trip the line from formal to a casual look.
- The uniform: As employees or contributors to the business, one needs to understand that the uniform is more about the brand than an individual’s personality. Avoid mixing your uniform with a personal style statement. Never try to add any accessory that isn’t a part of the uniform or the corporate code. This will highlight your attire in the wrong way. A comfortable and perfect fit is always welcome but ensures that it remains under your uniform’s norms.
- Casuals: Here’s the thing with casuals- none of us can perfectly summarise what befitting casual wear is. One needs to maintain the degree of casual wear in an office setup, especially during festivities. Never wear t-shirts that have loud or tacky content on them in any form. Then in terms of casual wear, the appropriate length as per your society’s norms and acceptance levels are crucial. A pair of Capri that might be ‘cool’ to wear during a holiday may not make you look one during a weekend or networking get-together. For women, overdone Indian wear with tonnes of jewellery and makeup can only invite you to laughter and comments.
